The shortlist for the Man Booker International Prize, which celebrates "the finest works of translated fiction from around the world," includes two Israeli authors, a South American, and three Europeans.
The finalists include Mathias Enard (France), author of Compass (Fitzcarraldo Editions); David Grossman (Israel), author of A Horse Walks Into a Bar (Jonathan Cape); Roy Jacobsen (Norway), author of The Unseen (Maclehose); Dorthe Nors (Denmark), author of Mirror, Shoulder, Signal (Pushkin Press); Amos Oz (Israel), author of Judas (Chatto & Windus); and Samanta Schweblin (Argentina), author of Fever Dream (Oneworld).
Three independent publishers—Pushkin, Oneworld, and Fitzcarraldo—have books on the list. Those indies are joined on the list by Random House imprints, Chatto & Windus and Jonathan Cape, as well as the Quercus imprint, Maclehose.
Each shortlisted author receives £2,500. The winning author and translator, who will be revealed on June 14, will receive an additional £50,000 prize which is to be to divided equally between them.
