Hajime Isayama%E2%80%99s Attack on Titan, a grim sci-fi saga set in a world ravaged by man-eating giants, is currently the biggest manga in the U.S. There%E2%80%99s no clearer sign of its success than the level of talent from the Western comics industry lined up for this original anthology of tribute comics. The roster includes major creators Gail Simone (Batgirl), Scott Snyder (Batman), and Phil Jimenez (Superwoman), as well as indie and small-press notables Evan Dorkin (Milk & Cheese), Faith Erin Hicks (The Nameless City) and Jody Houser (Faith). Some deliver action and horror stories in the spirit of the manga, while others take the opportunity to poke fun at its outlandish premise and grotesque artwork. The Victorian-style guide to Titan%E2%80%99s walled city by Genevieve Valentine and David L%C3%B3pez is a standout, as is the contemplative final story by brothers Asaf and Tomer Hanuka. The collection may not offer much to readers who aren%E2%80%99t already Titan fans, but it%E2%80%99s a strong selection of stories by assured talents. (Oct.)
